The wind was howling, the temperature was in the 40s, and the rain was driving in hard at a sideways angle, soaking Pape Field and the crowd of nearly 1,000 who had braved the elements to watch Oregon lacrosse play its first game.

It was cold, wet, miserable and a terrible day to be outside.

And then Jen May scored.

It was just 34 seconds into the Ducks' opener against Stanford on Feb. 12, 2005, and May, a freshman midfielder from Maryland, had recorded Oregon's first goal in program history to put the Ducks up 1-0.

The crowd erupted, and for the first time, the weather didn't seem to matter.

"I'll never forget it," May recalled later that year. "We were going crazy."

It was just the first of many memories to come for May and the seven other seniors who will most likely play their last games for Oregon this week at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament in Berkeley,...
