Fern Ridge Wine & Wings event sign-ups under way

International Migratory Bird Day is May 10, and local birders will observe the occasion with the third annual Wine & Wings Festival, a toast to the birding and wineries available in the Veneta area. Several outings and events require advance registration. Co-sponsored by Lane County Audubon Society, the City of Veneta, Cascades Raptor Center, the Army Corps of Engineers, Secret House Vineyards and the Convention and Visitors Association of Lane County, the festival features a full day of activities, including birdwalks, a plant and wildflower walk, a bird/wildlife photography workshop, a "paddle for predators" on Fern Ridge Lake and Coyote Creek, educational talks, children's activities and crafts, a wine tasting/birding tour of four wineries, and a gourmet dinner at Secret House Winery, which serves as the festival grounds.
