All year long, you dream about your summer dance intensive program. You've imagined nailing that triple pirouette and flying across the floor in a jump that hovers, airborne. And even though you're used to taking only one class per day, somehow, your energy never flags throughout your new, six-hour-a-day schedule. Wait! Reel that last fantasy back in--in reality, you're actually drained and pained. So what's a dancer to do? While it's not easy to power your way through a full day of concentrated dancing, there are some simple solutions that will help keep you pumped, primed, and ready to learn new steps and skills.

Christopher Fleming, assistant director of the Rock School's summer program, says many dancers are wiped out during the session's first couple of weeks. "We have a lot of kids who come here having taken just one class a day. Here they take three classes, plus rehearsals," he says.
