...First Nations, Miriam Clavir discusses the profession and ethics of museum conservation, and contrasts the beliefs of the conservator with the values and concerns of First Nations. Her primary goal is the exploration of how each concerned party defines the significance of "preservation." Clavir aims to provide the reader with 1) a deeper explanation of preservation and, 2) an understanding of the relationship between First Nations and museums. While the material presented did offer a new way of contemplating preservation, it rendered few insightful solutions to resolving conflicts between First Nations and museum collections caretakers. Nonetheless, it provides a sound base of useful information for those entering the field of conservation who may wish to consider other aspects of cultural objects beyond their physical state and nature.
