SPRINGFIELD - Lowe's is scrambling to get its 140,000-square-foot store built in north Springfield by the end of this year.

Representatives of the home improvement chain will meet April 17 with Springfield city planners to discuss aspects of the Lowe's project slated for vacant land near 28th Street and Marcola Road.

While Lowe's officials contacted last week declined to discuss their plan, a spokesman for the owner of the land said the North Carolina-based chain wants to open in Springfield by December.
