Byline: The Register-Guard
A few months back, an autographed copy of the book arrived in the mail. She devoured "Bowerman and the Men of Oregon," reliving so many memories. Prefontaine, and Salazar, and so many others. National championships, and world records, and so much else.
When she finished the final chapter, she decided to start again. Except she couldn't. Ash Wednesday was fast approaching. For Lent, she gave up the second read.
Understand, this was true sacrifice, because if you ask Ann Tuttle, there aren't too many things more important than Oregon track.
Quick story: In early January, for Ann's 90th birthday, friends and family members surprised her with a party at a downtown restaurant.
As usual, the gifts trended green and yellow, including an Oregon wastebasket and another basket filled with various Duck-related items. And the ultimate prize: season tickets to Oregon's track meets.
Ann's reaction: "They're good seats!"
