We begin this special issue with Annemarie Roeper's perspective on the breadth of gifted children's enhanced awareness, her insights into their sensitivities when faced with global issues, and accounts of gifted children's responses to such issues. In her article, "Global Awareness and Gifted Children: Its Joy and History," Roeper recounts the development of the field and her involvement with it. When gifted children face global issues, she cautions, they require straightforward and honest communication. Roeper encourages us to "trust the unknown," to explore the meaning of our feelings, and to ponder the role that spirituality plays in considering the nature of the universe.
A majority of the articles in this issue focus on methods for advancing global awareness in gifted individuals.
