One of the best-known industrial-era buildings in the Bronx, the 100-year-old American Bank Note Co. in Hunts Point, is about to get a major facelift.

The 415,000-square-foot structure--on the corner of Lafayette, Garrison and Barretta streets--contains many skylights and vast, multipaneled windows that were necessary for American Bank Note's army of engravers. Features of the building, which only recently became the borough's 74th to gain landmark status, include thick concrete floors and high ceilings needed for the presses that churned out currencies for nations worldwide.
