Brett McGillivray's Canada: A Nation of Regions is a welcome addition to the limited ranks of Canadian geography texts, joining Robert Bone's The Regional Geography of Canada (2005). McGillivray's book provides a straightforward account of Canada's human geography, emphasizing its historical development. It is written for an undergraduate audience without any prior geographic knowledge. The book is divided into three parts. The first part, covering Chapters 1 through 4, provides an introduction to basic geographic concepts, Canada's physical geography, its historical development, and its position within the global capitalist system.
