San Francisco City Hall has turned into a chapel of love where volunteers pronounce same-sex couples "spouses for life."

Last Tuesday morning, teacher Melissa Abrams sat on the stone floor grading papers as she and her partner of five years, Pamela Moore, waited to apply for their marriage license. They already had domestic-partner papers and had planned a wedding ceremony in July. But Tuesday, they were set to wed in what Abrams called an act of "civil disobedience."

May the ladies live happily ever after. I believe in marriage and equal rights for gay people. I enjoy a political crusade when it's infections with joy. I look forward to the day when California legalizes...
