Local author adds flavor to 'chick lit': booksellers commit more space to the hip, trendy new genre.

John Scognamiglio of Kensington Publishing Corp. of New York City described San Diego author Jennifer Coburn as an "editor's dream."

Her first published book, "The Wife of Reilly"--an urban tale about a woman who decides to find a new wife for her soon-to-be ex-husband--is among the bestsellers in the burgeoning "chick lit" genre that started in the late 1990s with such novels as "Bridget Jones's Diary," and "'A Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing."

Chick lit books "feature everyday women in their 20s and 30s navigating their generation's challenges of balancing demanding careers with personal relationships," according to a recent report on ABCNews.com.

San Diego's Coburn is an author at the cutting edge of that trend.
