The atmosphere in Studio One at The Boston Conservatory is what you might expect from a well-worn, old New England building: polished dark wood, high ceilings, and windows looking out to brick alleyways. But the dance students fill the room with a sense of relief and giddiness, despite end-of-semester jury examinations looming just around the corner. They're presenting an informal showing from their dance electives courses.

The dancers have spent all year learning to adapt to any technique. Their versatility gives them several career options after graduation, and the seniors in the room are wondering if they'll follow other alumni to Broadway, Boston Ballet, Mark Morris, Sean Curran, Paul Taylor, Ballet Hispanico, Alvin Alley, MOMIX, or Cedar Lake, among other places.
