The way dancers present themselves shows a lot about their ability. Theater dance is based on heightening a normal everyday moment into something bigger. A deep-seated passion fuels these moments, so sometimes I make the compromise of taking less technique for more passion.

Dancers need to be educated on what they're auditioning for. Don't show up looking like Thoroughly Modern Millie if you're auditioning for Rent. You shouldn't ever have a look in your face that could be mistaken for a bad attitude or boredom. I want to hire people who are anxious to go on the same ride as the creative team. I need to hire intelligent dancers who can get into the complexities of the material and make their dancing more than just steps.
