Citing a relatively new and little-known law created to protect military personnel in civilian workplaces, an army reservist is suing a construction company, claiming he was fired because he was a member of the armed forces. (Smith v. P.E.R.T. Andreassi Dev. Corp., No. CV-03 1503 (E.D.N.Y. filed Mar. 25, 2003).)

The plaintiff alleges that his sudden termination following a short deployment violated the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
