Argentina: Laws & Strikes

Argentina has a law that prevents Telcos from transmitting live television programs. This has delayed the development of broadband television, and slowed the influx of new investments.

Despite this, "Cable TV will bring Internet access to a wide group of people," said Walter Burzaco, president of Argentina's Asociacion de Television por Cable (ATVC).

In the view of Humberto Garch, general secretary of TEPAL, the Panama-based pan-regional TV association, "In Argentina, regulators will not allow Telcos to buy up cable TV companies and create monopolies or duopolies, as was the case in Mexico, Colombia and Brazil."
