You're a presidential candidate. You're an Olympic athlete. You're a "leap year" baby.
The world acknowledges you only every four years.
But that can have its perks. For those wanting to live in the White House, it means being the most powerful person in the world, if only temporarily. For Olympic athletes, it can mean a gold medal.
And for those born on Feb. 29, it can not only mean big, blow-out birthday parties when this date rolls around every four years, but a way to lie about your age while not entirely telling a fib. Or to say you have actually had fewer birthdays than your children.
"Think about it," said Springfield's Ellen Toman, who celebrates her 12th birthday today, even though she was born in 1956. "If I live to be 100, I'll only be 25. Now if I could just look 25 then."
Gladys Moeller of Springfield, born in 1904, will celebrate her 25th birthday today with friends at her assisted-living home in the Gateway area.
For Chester Pietka of Eugene, celebrating his 21st birthday in Portland with family today is no big deal. "It's just another year," said the lifelong accordion player and teacher, who is 84 today and was the recipient of a surprise birthday...
