Simpletons do their thing

About the time Kevin Love was halfway to 26 points and a UCLA freshman-record 18 rebounds Thursday night, the Pit Crew was chanting something creative and original, very much like "You're a pansy. You're a pansy." My responding chant, doubtless difficult to make out in the Mac Court din, went something like "I beg to differ. I beg to differ."

It's a rarity, and a lot of fun, when a player actually lives up to the pregame hype and nonsense. I congratulate Mr. Love and the entire Bruin team for demonstrating incredible poise under pressure, and all-around championship basketball skills in a very hostile environment. Thanks to both teams for a tremendous game.

The Pit Crew's job is to behave like juvenile simpletons. And since its members are juvenile simpletons, it's a match made in heaven. Fair enough. But show a shred of sophistication, and an appreciation of the game, now and again. Without a visiting team, the whole affair would be a little dull.
