2007 in review.

This report describes a few highlights of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists' (ARRT's) activities in 2007. The ARRT's Annual Report to Registered Technologists, published each spring, includes a more comprehensive description of the registry's activities.

Certification and Examination Programs

The ARRT currently administers 15 certification programs plus several examination programs solely for use in state licensing (ie, limited scope of practice in radiography, bone densitometry equipment operators, plus several California examinations). ARRT's radiography, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and sonography certification programs are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Recognition by the NCCA provides external validation of a certification program's quality. Continued recognition by NCCA requires annual reports to ensure that quality is maintained.

Examinees, R.T.s And Certificates Held

The number of first-time examinees continues to increase for radiography and nuclear medicine. For radiography, the number was up 2% for 2007 compared with the same period in 2006. It was up 20% in nuclear medicine and down 6% in radiation therapy compared with 2006.
