SPRINGFIELD - On paper, Jack Ryan is a formidable political candidate.

Consider Ryan's stock campaign speech: he grew up in a family of eight, went to New Trier High School, then Dartmouth College. He has degrees from Harvard University's business and law schools.

After working with refugees in south Texas, he joined Goldman Sachs and made millions as an investor, only to trade it in a few years ago for teaching on the South Side at Hales Franciscan, the state's only historically black, Catholic, all-male college prep high school.

Oh, and he's handsome. Perfect smile - never...
