MESA, Ariz. -Corey Patterson breaks effortlessly from an orange marker on one of the Fitch Park fields and easily runs down his target during a flyball drill.

Patterson then takes off from one foul pole and runs to the other without even the trace of a limp. In the batting cage, his familiar left-handed swing rockets batting-practice balls to all areas of the outfield.
