Of the three massive trophies handed out at the conclusion of Saturday's IHSA swim finals, only two were taken for a victory dip: the third-place chalice claimed by Hinsdale Central and the championship trophy won by New Trier.

Already possessing a runner-up trophy from the year before, Stevenson's contingent wasn't quite sure what to do with its hardware, a situation the Pats probably hadn't considered following Friday's promising preliminaries.

Wearing the equivalent of a swim rally cap, New Trier (134.5 points) caught fire midway through the state's 73rd annual meet to deny Stevenson (120) its first team title. Hinsdale Central (92) finished a distant third followed by Waubonsie Valley (91), Evanston (83) and early leader Naperville Central (82).
