Q: Our waste hauler was moving a drum of processing waste from the store to the truck. The drum tipped over and spilled in the grass. How do we deal with making sure there won't be any questions about cleanup in the future?
A: Keeping good records on all your actions is the best insurance against future problems. This can be done by taking good notes, snapping some pictures, or capturing it all in video.
The waste hauling company ultimately has the liability for the cleanup. It is also your waste, so be aware of what is happening. Because your company has that liability, take steps now to make sure there are no questions later about what, if anything, remains in the soil after a cleanup is complete.
