Strip malls not best for Detroit

I recently read your article about redevelopment in Detroit ("Downtown development takes center stage; neighborhood retail next,'' Nov. 26) and was disappointed in Mayor Kilpatrick's comment that the city will "move away from convenience stores to strip or larger malls.''

I recognize that the city and DEGC expect that new store spaces in strip malls may attract more businesses to the area and provide economic vitality that convenience stores simply can't. However, aesthetically speaking, strip malls or larger malls are just as visually unappealing as most...
