In a brightly lit Tulsa dance studio, Karina Gonzalez runs lightly toward her partner, principal Alfonso Martin, then whirls into a series of pirouettes that end in a joyful arabesque in his arms. The Tulsa Ballet soloist's soft features, long limbs, and supple torso express a rapid succession of feelings as the two run through a pas de deux from Michael Smuin's Romeo and Juliet. As Martin raises Gonzalez aloft, her body unfurls with a yearning so overwhelming one senses the tragedy ahead.
