Thousands of Oregonians in the northwest corner of the state began shoveling mud and drying rugs as utility crews struggled to restore power Tuesday after the biggest storms in a decade blew through.

Pacific Power said nearly 36,000 of its customers were still dark, but power was being restored in Lincoln City and its surrounding county.

In Lane County and on the central Oregon Coast, residents also were busy clearing downed trees and sweeping up debris.

At Papa's Soul Food in Eugene, a tree fell on the roof, causing damage to the deck and breaking outdoor tables and a fence, said restaurant employee Lela Ross. Despite the damage, the restaurant is open for business.
