An hour or so before kickoff, Chip Kelly has this little thing he does.

Staying just inside the white lines, he walks clockwise around the field. In the end zones, without breaking stride, he leans down to touch each orange pylon - eight in all - with his left hand.

Then he walks off the field, and back into the locker room.

Kelly started this pregame ritual long before he became Oregon's offensive coordinator. He says it's not about superstition, and there's no larger meaning. He does it "just to get a feel for what the field is like."

Just surveying the field. For much of this season, it seemed like that's about all Kelly needed to do. The offense ran so smoothly, he just needed to ensure the playing surface was OK....
