The rumors are true. Jarrod Kaplan ran off and joined the circus.

The Eugene-based, show-stealing drummer and percussionist for Trillian Green, Woodland and David Jacobs-Strain has committed his skills exclusively for a two-year stint with Cirque du Soleil's newest production, "Kooza."

Kaplan was part of the creative process for this show, so if he doesn't continue for its entire run, subsequent drummers will mold their performances on the role Kaplan first embodied.

Kaplan performed when the show opened in Montreal, and now that the cast has taken up residence in San Francisco, more of Kaplan's Northwest friends, family and fellow musicians might be able to see the show.

Home on break, Kaplan took some time to talk about how a child actor-turned indie musician ended up in one of the largest entertainment empires in the world.
