A great opportunity

The McKenzie Community Track & Field running track has the opportunity of being available for use as a practice facility for the Olympic Trials. They have most of the cash in the bank thanks to Nike, The Ford Foundation and many other contributors.

The request to change the zoning from rural industrial to rural park and recreation will be heard by the Lane County planning commission on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. and by the Lane County commissioners on Jan. 16, 2008.

One of the great things about this facility is it is served by the Lane Transit District. You can ride the bus up river, train in a beautiful setting, enjoy the adjacent wetland and nature trail, and return to town on the bus. A great scenic ride and a great run, what a combination. This is good for the environment, good for business and great recreation.

Time for a change

Why is Mike Bellotti's job safe? How many bowl games do the Ducks have to get blown out in before this guy starts feeling the heat? It's easy to blame this season's collapse on injuries and other unfortunate circumstances, but what's the excuse for having no offense at all after Dennis Dixon goes down? Stewart couldn't run and the quarterbacks were flat out terrible.

It looked as if Bellotti was doing an all-right job this season; other than a couple of questionable calls and moves, he seemed to have the team focused. After 10-plus years of Bellotti, I have noticed that teams don't stay focused late...
