Sitting in the stands of Reser Stadium one year ago, Clint Evensen almost couldn't watch.
His son Matt was about to try a game-winning kick, his first attempt of the day on a sloppy field soaked with rain. Oregon State led the Civil War 30-28 over Matt's Ducks with 20 seconds left. After two misses by the starter, Oregon turned to its backup kicker to try a 44-yard field goal.
"I thought, boy, this is pretty heavy," Clint Evensen recalled, worried that his son, then a walk-on sophomore, lacked enough experience to handle the situation.
"But that's me. Now, Matt's different. He doesn't get nervous as much as I do. He kind of takes things in stride. I think he's got the right attitude for a kicker. He's always been a cool, collected athlete."
In truth, though, Matt Evensen's legs were a little jittery, the player said this week. Officially, his kick was blocked by a Beaver to secure their win, on a field goal by Alexis Serna...
