Two companies won Innovator awards: Schreiner Group, of Oberschleissheim, Germany, for its double sided plastoclear label with integrated micro chip, and McDowell Label & Screen Printing, of Plano, TX, USA, for its Back in Blaque tanning product label. Both companies also won first place awards for those products, Schreiner in the Tags, Industrial and/or Systems category; and McDowell in the Roll to Roll, Line & Screen/Tone, Prime category.

This year's competition drew 317 entries from 50 converters, both North American and international. First place awards were presented for 35 North American labels and tags, and for 21 international labels. Twenty-three second place awards were presented, seven of them to international converters.

Sixteen companies won multiple awards. The most went to McDowell Label & Screen Printing (eight firsts and four seconds), Collotype Labels from Australia (six firsts, two seconds), Germark of Spain, (five firsts, two seconds), and KimBells pack of The Philippines (five firsts and one second place award).

The judging committee, chaired by Steve Lee of RotoMetrics, included Mike Buystedt, XSYS Print Solutions; John Coleman, Nilpeter; Page Crouch, Clemson University; Gary Gordon, Mark Andy; Pat Hague, Water Ink Technologies; Ray Mackura, Avery Dennison Fasson Roll North America; Robert Smithson, Trinity Graphic USA; Paul Teachout, Aquaflex; and Terry Trexler, Gallus.
