The Ilford Corp. entered the world of imaging way back in 1879, and for many decades has been synonymous with the very highest-quality photo papers. Until recently, the company made black-and-white paper at a manufacturing plant in Mobberley, Cheshire, United Kingdom, and color and inkjet paper at a facility in Marly, Switzerland.

In 2004, Ilford went into receivership with financial company Doughty Hanson & Co. The following year, Doughty Hanson spun off the black-and-white side of the business to HARMAN technology Ltd. in Mobberly, and sold the color and inkjet part of the business to Oji Paper Group in Tokyo, Japan.

"Oji Paper is the sixth largest paper company in the world, a $10 billion corporation with more than 20,000 employees worldwide," says Tom Poudrier, marketing manager for Oji Ilford USA, the U.S. Sales and Marketing Division of Oji Paper; and Ilford Imaging, Marly, Switzerland (www.ilford.com). "There are 68 manufacturing and research and development facilities (R-and-D), with 26 of those facilities overseas. The budgeted R-and-D expense last year was in excess of $100 million, and we are the global leader in the number of inkjet-related patents for the last 3 years.
