BEIJING, Feb 23 Asia Pulse - China's medical insurance system covered nearly 109 million people by the end of 2003 and the figure is expected to exceed 115 million this year.

According to a recent national workshop on medical insurance, over 81.3% of the country's major cities have issued specific regulations to guarantee urban residents having no fixed jobs enjoy medical insurance, and some five million such people have participated in the system.
