...Paul's Photo, returned September from a trip to Kenya, on which he was joined by 16 customers. Trips like this one are an extension of an in-store photography education program.

The trip business

"We've been doing trips since 1988, although this was our first time going to Africa. It was our biggest and most extensive trip, and certainly the most successful," Comon says. "The Photo Adventures, which is what we call our trips, are a growing part of my business and something customers look forward to year after year."

Paul's Photo offers four to six trips per year--mostly long weekends to scenic spots like national parks in the western United States. Every year or two, Comon takes customers on overseas Photo Adventures. "We went to Germany a couple years ago; and this year, of course, we went to Africa. Next year, we're going to Italy."

Comon, who also teaches the in-store photography classes, handles most of the instruction on Photo Adventures. "It's really all about photography. I'm there as a coach for the people who come on these trips. Not only do I put the trips together and assure they have a great time, but I am there to answer their questions," Comon says.
