When she was a child, to her mother's dismay, LouAnn Woodward liked to "dissect" frogs, snakes and other dead animals on the family farm in rural Carroll County.

"I wanted to be a doctor all of my life," said Woodward, the oldest of two children born to Bruce Ray, a farmer, entrepreneur and state government worker, and Bobbie Lou Davis Heath, who retired from the child support division of the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
