When Amy West's husband, Ben, was recruited by Mississippi State University in 2002 to join the staff as a wildlife biology professor, West planned to flex her entrepreneurial muscle and establish a human resources consulting business.

"My target audience was small businesses that did not have the resources to have a full-time human resources staff member," recalled West upon moving from Utah to Mississippi. "This business would have allowed me more flexible work hours as I prepared to start a family."
