In the second quarter of 2007, South Dakota's personal income growth ranked 27th in the United States. The State's personal income grew at a 1.2 percent rate in the second quarter of 2007 over the first quarter of 2007. For this same period, the management of companies and enterprises sector grew 4.4 percent. The Bureau of Economic Analysis defines this sector as establishments that hold the securities of companies for the purpose of owning a controlling interest or that oversee or manage establishments of the company or enterprise.
