Laser cutting originated for processing sheet materials, but new high-powered lasers capable of processing heavier gauge and plate materials are moving lasers into the thick of part making.
For the many industries that produce flat parts, laser cutting can provide major "lean production" benefits. Today's high-power, high-output lasers can reduce processing steps, throughput time and part-making costs. Laser cutting can replace punching, drilling and machining operations, enable faster part processing, save on labor requirements, and provide processing flexibility--all while avoiding tooling and fixturing expenses.
Higher resonator power gives lasers greater versatility, material range and productivity, enabling service centers to profitably expand their value-added capabilities, especially in offering contract cutting of geometric and complexly shaped parts.
On thicker materials, an advanced laser cutting system with linear motor drive and 5,000 watts...
