Kiger mustangs to be put up for adoption in Burns

More than 100 wild Kiger mustangs will be offered for adoption by the Bureau of Land Management Nov. 10 in Burns. Available will be 21 colts, 20 fillies, 42 mares, 31 stallions and one mare with foal. The animals range in age from about five months to 17 years. Kigers, which display many characteristics of the original Spanish Mustang, are found in the Steens Mountain area of southeast Oregon and are gathered from the range once every three or four years. Horses up for adoption will be available for viewing beginning at 8 a.m. Nov. 8 at Oregon's Wild Horse Corral Facility in Hines. Also scheduled in conjunction with the event are vendor booths, gentling demonstrations and showings of trained Kigers, all at the Harney County Fairgrounds. Competitive oral...
