Frederick Battles

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Springfield for Frederick William Battles of Eugene, formerly of Springfield. He died Oct. 26 of cancer at age 79. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield.

He was born April 1, 1928, in Gary, S.D., to William and Louise Hundertmark Battles. He married Ruth Ulmer on Sept. 5, 1954, in Wishek, N.D.

Battles was a high school graduate. He worked as a printer at The Register-Guard.

Survivors include three children, Beverly Weltch of Eugene, Becky Isham of Fall Creek and Billie Bergthold of Annandale, Va.; two sisters, Viola Itaas of Madison, Minn., and Edythe Fairchild of Watertown, S.D.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His wife died Oct. 18, 1997.

Private burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Eugene. Remembrances to the church.

Arlan Collman

VENETA - A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Junction City Seventh-day Adventist Church for Arlan Lee Collman of Veneta. He died Oct. 18 of cancer at age 72.

He was born May 29, 1935, in Klamath Falls to Ernest and Alice Brown Collman. He married Geraldine Coleman on Dec. 3, 1962, in Eugene.

Collman served in the Marine Corps. He was educated through the 10th grade, and worked as a heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Elvin Reeve of Veneta, Daniel Collman Sr. of Alvadore, Kelly Collman and Everett Colley, both of Springfield; two daughters, LaDonna Butler and Edna Collman, both of Veneta;...
