When University of Oregon officials began talking about replacing McArthur Court five years ago, the idea was to raise enough money to pay for a new basketball arena outright. That way, all additional income resulting from increased ticket sales would go straight to the bottom line, avoiding any risks that would attend financing the arena with borrowed money. But Phil and Penny Knight's decision to create the Oregon Athletics Legacy Fund has turned that thinking on its head.
