Ambit Biosciences was born from humble beginnings.

In 2000, the company licensed technology from Yale University that would enable scientists to determine which targets in a person's body were affected by a drug molecule.

At the time, Ambit had about 20 employees and Chief Executive Officer Scott Salka had no science degree. He did, however, know about startups.

Salka served as CEO of 454 Corp., a DNA sequencing company based in Connecticut, and previous to 454 Corp., as CEO of Arcaris, a Salt Lake City firm focused on proteomics and identifying potential new drugs.
