Article Excerpt Located in the backwaters of the Missouri Ozarks, Ray's Store, like many rural roadside bait and tackle shops, looks ramshackle, needs paint on the front. A handwritten sign on the screen door says "No shirt, no shoes, no problem" and below "Smokers welcome." A beat-up Harley Davidson squats on the porch.
Inside, the store is part museum, part entertainment center, part information booth for the locals. "There are things here you can't get at Wal-Mart," proprietor Ray McColl boasts, pointing to racks of tie-dyed T-shirts and old Janis Joplin posters arrayed behind the counter.
