Dancing a solo, Corina Gill has an inner calm that belies her ferocious technique. As soaring Tchaikovsky harp arpeggios and strings fill an airy Santa Monica studio during a recent Nutcracker rehearsal, she begins a series of perfect fouettes. While the music thrums faster and faster, she retains her poise to a clean finish on the beat. It would be an impressive display in any classical company, but Gill, 25, dances for Los Angeles Ballet, which has arrived on the city's parched ballet scene like a spring in the desert.
