Once upon a time, the traditional style of office decor was as trendy as the poodle skirt, particularly if one wished to appear solid and established.

"Now we're seeing a trend away from trends, if such a thing is possible," said Charles Hooker of OffiSource in Jackson. "People seem to feel freer than ever to choose their own preferences for styles."

The change in thinking, Hooker noted, has a lot to do with "some combination of the need to adapt to evolutionary and revolutionary technology, the changing roles of all businesses in our various markets and simply a demographic of a more youthful orientation in the workforce. Arching over all of this is a desire for things to be both upbeat and timeless, and that's ultimately led to good design--pure, clean lines with an emphasis on high quality in terms of functional performance as well as durability and fit and finish."

Buying patterns have also been affected, Hooker pointed out.
