Owning or leasing. What is the best option for your business?

It is generally accepted that most businesses come out better leasing office or retail space, but a number of different factors have to be taken into consideration.

"The advantages of leases are that you are not making a long-term commitment," said David H. Hoster II, president and CEO, EastGroup Properties, Jackson. "Then over time if your business needs to expand or contract, you have the flexibility to do that. You can take adjacent space or move."

Expect changes

Hoster said a mistake a lot of companies make when they buy a building, whether for industrial or office use, is they think they aren't going to have any changes in their business. Then business gets really good or really bad, and they are stuck with a space that doesn't work.
