Over the last few months a number of unions under the auspices of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) have sought to begin a process of reassessment in the face of the general challenge to working people and our way of life that now emanates from a myriad of sources: especially those related to neo-liberal globalisation and climate change. These discussions have also attracted the involvement of a number of social commentators and journal editors. They are the type one might expect, and hope for, when the wheels begin to fall off the national bandwagon. They may well develop into a significant challenge to our floundering social order.
