David Scott's Last Flight out of Dili: Memoirs of an Accidental Activist in the Triumph of East Timor combines a history of the East Timorese independence struggle, an expose of Australian government actions in relation to occupied East Timor, and an account of the solidarity movement in Australia.

David Scott brings a wealth of personal knowledge to this book. He was asked by the Australian Council for Overseas Aid to visit East Timor in November 1975 to assess the country's situation in light of Fretilin's declaration of independence. With an Indonesian military invasion imminent, he made the difficult decision to leave Dili on the last available international flight, just four days before the full invasion on 7 December.
