Placing Eugene's Civic Stadium on the National Register of Historic Places won't guarantee that the 69-year-old ballpark will survive the wrecking ball. A listing wouldn't even slow down the bulldozers if a decision to tear down the stadium were made. Certification as a historic structure might, however, cause decision-makers to pause a bit longer before taking irrevocable steps toward demolition, and prod everyone to work a little harder to explore possibilities of preservation.
