As Opec meets in Vienna Sep. 11 to decide on future production volumes, oil ministers will be preoccupied by fears that the global credit crunch has not yet run its course and might rattle economies worldwide, startling speculators and consumers enough to send oil prices into freefall.

Opec is concerned that it might be misreading oil demand growth and releasing too much oil into a reticent market. Analysts say this worry can only strengthen Opec's resolve to keep current output restrictions in place.
