Bankers offer investment strategies to ease jitters caused by volatile markets: suggested strategies may help reduce interest rate and stock market risks.

Recent stock market volatility has prompted some jitters among those having loans vulnerable to rising interest rates and those holding large amounts of a single stock.

Individuals working within financial and stock circles said there are ways to diminish vulnerability to these market swings, but the strategies depend on a couple of factors: Just how vulnerable your position is and whether or not you want to retreat to safer territory.

Such situations typically trigger more phone calls from customers with variable rate commercial loans or unbalanced stock portfolios, said Salim Janmohamed, San Diego regional president for Northern Trust Corp., a multi-bank holding company based in Chicago.
